Matthew 16:26

In some Bible versions, Matthew 16:26 describes a person's soul and in others it describes the life. Can someone shed some light in the context of the original Bible that was written in Greece?

馬 太 福 音 16:26 Chinese Union Version (Traditional) (CUV)
26 人 若 賺 得 全 世 界 , 賠 上 自 己 的 生 命 , 有 甚 麼 益 處 呢 ? 人 還 能 拿 甚 麼 換 生 命 呢 ?

NIV
Matthew 16:26 What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

ESV
Matthew 16:26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life?

Thanks.
