Prayer...

"To pray is to walk in the full light of God, and to say simply, without holding back, 'I am human and You are God.' At that moment, conversion occurs, the restoration of the true relationship. A human being is not someone who once in a while makes a mistake, and God is not someone who now can then forgives. No, human beings are sinners and God is love." - Henri Nouwen's

Prayer is a declaration of dependence upon God.

A prayer of desperation -- "God, have mercy on me, a sinner."

The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.

Psalm 139:4, 7-8: "Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.... Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there."

from the book "Prayer" by Philip Yancy
