Revelation

A few days ago, the National Geographic played a one hour show on the Discovery Channel on the Book of Revelation. It was a awesome one hour show which I only caught a small part of it. There were comments from Tyndale Seminaries and other dignitaries.

We all knew that apostle John wrote the Book of "Revelation" while in exile from the Romans authorities on the island of Patmos. However a statement from the show caught my attention and I like to post it here for your comments:

"The Book of Revelation was unlikely written by apostle John for 2 reasons:
  1. The writing style differs entirely from the Gospel of John.
  2. When "Revelation" was written around A.D. 95, apostle John would have been close to 100 and most like dead.

I remember both Dr. Gary Lau and Peter Wu commented there we should not spend too much time on certain non-worthy issues. Nonetheless, I find this statement quite fascinating, don't you think?

John was Jesus's cousin, by AD 95 he was only about 85-90 years old. Early church elders do believed that John lived to an old age. As there was a time gap between writting the Gospel and the Book of Revelations, his writing style had changed. Please get the Revelations commentary book from our library and you can get all the answers.
